San Francisco's branch of Unite HERE, the union for hotel and restaurant workers, returned to the picket lines on Monday after another bout of failed negotiations that afternoon. In the first such move since a 60-day cooling-off period ended on Jan. 24, an estimated 300 laborers marched outside the Westin St. Francis, one of 14 embroiled properties. "We've had a boycott in place against these hotels since they locked our workers out [in September]," said a local union representative. "This is an escalation, to remind the public of where we stand."

Los Angeles' plans for a city-subsidized convention center hotel were finalized on Friday, when the city council agreed to provide up to $177 million in hotel taxes, city loans and building-fee exemptions for the 1,200-room hotel project.

The Quinn Group has purchased the De Vere Belfry, a 324-room golf resort near Birmingham, England, for $345 million from the De Vere Group. The group will continue managing the hotel under the De Vere Hotels brand for the next 25 years. The property has hosted four Ryder Cup golf tournaments.

The Loews Annapolis Hotel in Annapolis, Md., completed a $5 million renovation on Feb. 14. Among the changes is a new Commodore Class level of guest rooms. The hotel has more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space.

Opening on Sunday is the St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colo. The 200-room, $25 million property features 11,000 square feet of meeting space and a 10,000-square-foot spa with 12 treatment rooms.
