Last week in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Convention Center board received a letter from Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell promising the first $50 million of funding for the $632 million convention center expansion, which will bring the total exhibit space from 440,000 to 700,000 square feet. However, to assuage Rendell's misgivings about how the funding will be managed, the PCC board has tapped SMG, the facilities management company, to oversee the expansion and provide counsel to PCC operations staff. Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority chairman and city council member Michael Nutter hopes to see the expansion finished by December 2008. "We're very pleased with the announcement that the governor made in his letter," said Nutter. "We're going to be as responsive as possible to the issues that he's raised."
