The estimated total number of visitors to New York City in 2004 was 39.6 million, 4.6 percent higher than in 2003 and a new record. International arrivals increased by 10.2 percent, with a 20 percent increase coming from Japan. Occupancy was 83 percent, and the average daily rate increased $19 to $212. Furthermore, but 2005 is expected to tip the number of visitors higher than 40 million.
