On Monday, officials with the Overland Park (Kan.) Convention Center announced the 237,000-square-foot facility would turn a profit in just its second year of operation. "Our pre-construction market study showed a demand for a convention center facility," said Overland Park mayor Ed Eilert. "We are pleased to learn that the Center is exceeding projected expectations and meeting needs of companies and individuals." According to Global Spectrum, the Philadelphia-based operators of the center, more than 360,000 people attended 490 events at the facility, generating more than 40,000 hotel room nights in the Overland Park area in 2004. For 2005, the center has 12 conventions booked with more than 70,000 room nights expected.
