Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced Dec. 1 it will manage a 98-room hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. To be called the Mandarin Oriental, Prague, the hotel will occupy a former monastery built in the 14th century and will open in early 2006. Among the amenities will be a spa, a gym, an upscale restaurant and bar, and meeting and banquet facilities, although no exact square footage has been agreed upon as yet.

White Plains, N.Y.-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced on Dec. 7 that the Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte, N.C., will join the hotel company's Luxury Collection. The resort, which comprises a 212-room hotel and an adjacent 35-room lodge, offers approximately 20,000 square foot of meeting space, a spa and a golf school, among other amenities. Under construction for a spring 2005 opening is the Village at Ballantyne, with shopping, additional dining options and a six-screen cinema.
