For the second time this month, the $650 million Las Vegas
Monorail, which opened only two months ago, stopped service, this
time indefinitely. The monorail, which has 6.3 miles of track with
stops at seven hotel-casinos and the Las Vegas Convention Center,
closed because of mechanical problems on Sept. 9, but officials
waited until earlier this week to state that the troubles besetting
the line are of a long-term nature.
