Missouri's Cape Girardeau Convention & Visitors Bureau is running local newspaper advertisements soliciting advice from area residents on how to use more than $1 million in extra hotel and restaurant tax money. Ideas, which must focus on enhancing the local tourism industry, have included constructing a water park and building a statue of the city's founding father. "There are now well over 100 ideas," said Chuck Martin, executive director of the Cape Girardeau CVB. Bureau officials will begin vetting ideas at a Sept. 10 retreat.
