United Airlines announced last week it will begin daily service to Vietnam on Dec. 9. According to United's top exec, Glenn Tilton, the San Francisco-Ho Chi Minh City flight will mark the first time a U.S. carrier has provided direct service to Vietnam in nearly three decades. "The U.S. and Vietnam have experienced a dramatic increase in our commercial relations since the Bilateral Trade Agreement came into effect on Dec. 10, 2001," said the U.S. ambassador to Vietnam, Raymond F. Burghardt. "Direct air connections are the next logical steps, and this should further increase trade, tourism and cultural relations between our two peoples."
