The Bermuda Ministry of Transport is in the final stages of a plan to modernize Bermuda's taxi fleet. Effective July 1 (assuming the omnibus measure passes cabinet and legislative approval), ride sharing will be made legal, modern vehicles will be phased into the fleet, and the Ministry of Transport will begin installation on a modern dispatch system. Also, rates will increase by 20 percent, at which point a taxi ride from the airport to Hamilton will cost about $22. Next year, the rates will go up by another 5 percent.
