Cuyahoga County, Ohio, commissioners voted on May 4 to form the Cleveland-Cuyahoga Convention Facilities Authority. The 11-member group will review convention center feasibility studies, identify a site for a new center for the city and structure the center's financial backing. "They have an opportunity to start from a clean slate," said Barton Hacker of the Greater Cleveland Lodging Council. "The CFA model presents an independent, third-party perspective on how the process ought to move forward and is not likely to get bogged down in the kind of politics that [previous] efforts did." The new convention center authority is being financed by $50,000 diverted from the county's bed tax revenues.
