Consumer show producers and planners have complained about the April 1 imposition of a new 1 percent sales tax on most purchases at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Mo. "We've been in there for 51 years. We don't know that much about the tax -- it was somewhat of a surprise," said Dave Perkins, president of the Minneapolis-based General Sports Show, producers of the annual Kansas City Sports Show in the hall. "But any increase in any tax hurts a little. I don't like to see prices go up." The hike, which brings the total sales tax at Bartle Hall to 8.35 percent, will help fund construction of parking garages and a performing arts center at the facility.
