The U.S. State Department on Thursday updated its warning against travel to Pakistan, urging U.S. citizens to defer all nonessential travel to the country due to the continued presence of terrorist groups in the region. The State Department recommended that American citizens traveling to Pakistan register with the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad or at the consulates in Lahore, Peshawar or Karachi.

Visitor arrivals to Singapore recovered strongly at the end of last year, the country's tourism board announced last week. Tourist arrivals rose nearly 8 percent in November compared with the same month in 2002. In May 2003, arrivals lagged behind the previous year's figures by more than 70 percent.
