Far-flung and fabulous

Blue view. At The Water Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico, H2O is everywhere: All 84 guest rooms feature beach views, waterfalls trickle down the glass elevators and the nightclub is named Liquid. The agua-themed property opened last month. (787) 728-3666;

White water and marshmallows. Miss those carefree days of summer camp? Averill’s Flathead Lake Lodge in Western Montana is just as much fun, but with more grown-up comforts. Guests at the 46-room property can ride horses, raft the rapids or roast marshmallows around the campfire. (406) 837-6977;

Seeing red. Everything’s rosy — literally — at Hotel Rouge, scheduled to open this month in Washington, D.C. Even the minibar goodies at the 137-room boutique property are crimson-hued, including wax lips, jello and temporary tattoos. (202) 332-8000;

Retro retreat. Slip back into simpler times at Mojave — A Desert Resort. The 24-room Palm Desert, Calif., property has been retrofitted with ’40s-style furnishings, amenities (above) and movies for the in-room VCRs. Casablanca, anyone? (760) 346-6121;
