Human Rights Organization Boycotts Georgia
by Michael C. LoweMay 11, 2011
The US Human Rights Network announced it will move its 2011 national conference outside the state of Georgia if Gov. Nathan Deal signs the controversial anti-immigration bill HB 87. The law, which mirrors legislation passed in Arizona last year, was passed by the General Assembly this April and awaits the governor's approval. The Atlanta-based network of more than 300 organizations from around the country is scheduled to hold its 600-person conference in December in Atlanta. Formal steps to identify an alternate conference location will begin when Gov. Deal signs the measure, which he has indicated he will do.
