Pillow gifts and mementos are among the elements that make incentive trips so special to winners. Following are ideas and suppliers for the four destinations -- Bermuda, Calgary, Panama and Slovenia -- profiled in our annual incentive roundup.
Set hotel rooms with a proper welcome: fixings for a Dark 'n' Stormy -- Goslings Black Seal Rum (made here for two centuries; goslings.com) and ginger beer, properly served in a highball glass over ice.
Invite the men to shop for authentic Bermuda shorts from the English Sports Shop (441-295-5963) in Hamilton, while the ladies select hand-bottled fragrances from the Bermuda Perfumery (bermuda-perfumery.com) in St. George's. These reputable local purveyors will bring their wares to your event, too, for VIPs to select their presents on-site.
Send them home with hand-blown creations from Dockyard Glassworks or rum cakes from the Bermuda Rum Cake Factory (both available at dockyardcompany.com).
Top performers will appreciate a quintessentially Calgarian treat: a white-chocolate cowboy hat made locally by Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut (bernardcallebaut.com). Other gifts reflecting the region are cowboy hats from Lammle's Western Wear & Tack (lammles.com) or handcrafted pieces of iridescent art from the Ammonite Factory (ammonite-factory.com), which houses one of the largest collections of ammolite -- one of the world's rarest gems and Alberta's official gemstone.
Some of the country's best shopping finds are the handmade crafts of its many indigenous Indian tribes. Participant will adore the colorful Chacara bags, woven from the fibers of the wild pineapple plant; exquisite masks of the Ebera people, made from tightly woven palm fronds; and intricately embroidered fabric panels made by the Kuna people, which can be hung as wall panels or sewn together to create throw pills and tablecloths. A number of handicraft suppliers can be found in the Casco Viejo section of Panama City and its website, cascoviejo.com, along with contact information.
Among the local handicrafts top winners will prize are articles (towels, tablecloths, collars) made of intricate Idrija lace, available from Skrina (skrina.si). Another gift they'll appreciate is a hand-painted beekeeping panel, in an array of colors and motifs, available at ČCipka Art 2000 (011-386-5-37-22-573).
