San Diego Mayor Wants CVB to Relinquish Marketing Authority

by Michael C. LoweMarch 7, 2013

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has asked the San Diego Tourism Authority to relinquish marketing authority over the city’s convention center, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The request was made through a letter sent last month to the board chairman of the Convention Center Corp. and comes less than a year after the convention center board and the San Diego City Council approved transferring marketing authority over the center to the city’s tourism organization in a four-year agreement. Earlier this week, the convention center board called a special meeting to discuss the matter but agreed not to take any action until it meets again next Wednesday. Brian Seltzer, an attorney representing the SDTA, warned that breaking the contract could result in potentially millions of dollars in damages.
