To find last-minute volunteers to staff a meeting of a professional organization, consider calling a nearby university that teaches the profession in question; for example, a law school for a bar association event, or a chemistry department for a chemists' association. Many students would be more than willing to volunteer at a conference to learn more about the field, network with pros and build their résumés.
