Volunteer Corps
by Jonathan Vatner9/7/2010
Faced with a very small staff for its September convention, the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association found eager volunteers for all sorts of tasks from its membership. Volunteers stuffed convention totes, staffed the registration booth during slow hours and acted as greeters. One member, who had A/V experience, walked around the rooms to make sure all the screens, computers and microphones were working. "I could hire temporary help for these things, but I find that volunteers can do it," says Michael Tune, executive director. "A lot of members want to help out, any way."
