Wilmington Convention Center Earns LEED Silver

by Michael C. LoweDecember 14, 2011

The 107,000-square-foot Wilmington (N.C.) Convention Center has received LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. In Wilmington's historic river district, the facility features a white roof that reflects the sun and decreases the need for cooling, and also includes high-performance windows that help conserve energy and decrease heat from the sun during warmer months. A sophisticated sand-filtration system was designed to prevent pollutants from entering the nearby water, and individual lighting controls, energy management and air-quality sensors help groups manage their energy consumption.
