Rebirth

In July, after a $145 million renovation, the Roosevelt New Orleans welcomed its first guests in four years. The hotel originally opened in 1893 as the Grunewald and later was renamed the Fairmont, which it remained until its closure in 2005. In its heyday, the property hosted luminaries such as Louis Armstrong, Jack Benny and Cab Calloway. Now part of the Waldorf Astoria Collection, the Roosevelt has 504 guest rooms, including 135 suites. Highlights: the rural Italian restaurant Domenica, by chef John Besh; the Sazerac Bar and Restaurant; and the opulent Blue Room, which this fall began a Sunday-morning jazz brunch. The hotel also features an outdoor heated pool, the 12,500-square-foot Guerlain Spa, and more than 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including three ballrooms. The 181-room Holiday Inn New Orleans West Bank Tower, the relaunched Holiday Inn brand's first entry in the Big Easy, opened this past March following a $13 million revamp of an older property. The hotel offers approximately 2,000 square feet of meeting space. (504) 366-8535; ichotelsgroup.com
