Local Update: In March, the 63-room Betsy Hotel, a boutique property on South Beach, opened with a BLT Steak restaurant, a rooftop solarium and a fitness center.
Last December, the 411-room Epic Hotel opened on Biscayne Bay with a 4,000-square-foot ballroom, 11,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and a 15,000-square-foot spa.
In February, the 162-room Viceroy Miami opened downtown. The hotel offers five meeting rooms, a 4,000-square-foot ballroom, a two-acre pool terrace and a 28,000-square-foot spa.
The 631-room Eden Roc Renaissance Resort and Spa reopened in Miami Beach, following a $180 million revamp. The hotel now offers 50,000 square feet of meeting spaces, a spa, five pools and two restaurants.
The 56-room boutique Tempo Miami, A Rock Resort, will open this fall on Biscayne Bay with an 8,000-square-foot spa and 1,000 square feet of event space.
The iconic art deco Fontainebleau Miami Beach reopened last August after a $1 billion transformation. The property features 1,504 rooms, 200,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and a 40,000-square-foot spa.
Construction will begin in 2011 on One Bayfront Plaza, a 70-story, mixed-use development on Miami's South Biscayne Boulevard. The two-tower structure will house an 850-room convention hotel, 120,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, and 112,000 square feet of retail space. The building will seek LEED certification and will open in 2015.
The Palms South Beach is now The Palms Hotel & Spa. The 243-room property has completed a renovation of all public space, 8,000 square feet of meeting space, the Essensia restaurant, the 5,000-square-foot Aveda Spa and the pool area. By spring of next year, all guest rooms will be renovated.
The 366-room Miami Airport Marriott completed a $15 million renovation earlier this year. Changes include a redesigned lobby and the new Cane Fire Grille Restaurant and Lounge.

Properties at or near Miami International Airport include the 693-room Doral Golf Resort & Spa, 500-room Hilton Miami International Airport and 405-room Wyndham Hotel & Executive Meeting Center.

Group Venue: In Coconut Grove, the 179-room Mayfair Hotel & Spa recently opened two new rooftop venues, the Cabana One Pool Club & Lounge and the New York-based steakhouse, Angelo & Maxie's. The two combined add more than 7,000 square feet of meeting and breakout space to the hotel's 8,600 square feet.
