square barFor the Canadian Impressions event held in May on the second-floor atrium of the Time Warner Center in New York City, there weren't walls to put bars against, so the organizers created a hollow-square bar in the center of the room. The shape allowed bartenders plenty of space to maneuver, and it drew attendees to the center of the room, rather than the outskirts.

Comment: any suggestions on name tags for an outdoor all day event?

Comment: The hollow square bar set-up is infinitely more conducive for attendees to interact, mingle, etc. regardless of the wall / no wall situation. I'd encourage planners to BEGIN with this set-up choice whenever possible and revert to against-the-wall style only if necessary.
