Jelly Roll

By Jonathan Vatner7/29/2009

water crystalsEnterprising gardeners mix these Water Jelly Crystals in with potting soil to help hydrate their plants, but Patricia Fernandez, director of catering at the InterContinental Tampa uses them for event décor. Drop them in water to turn them into jelly-like cubes, then stack them in a hurricane glass or vase, and the colors will blend together over the course of a few hours to create a rainbow. Buy them here; the set of red, yellow and blue, for $26.95, will create enough for an entire room.

Comment: Wow.... It's a look I'll give you that.... You could get the same look and effect using Kids Jello and then eat them to boot. Tell Patricia to come see me tommorrow morning and bring her ID and restroom Key and oh yeah, clean out her desk... Tell my assistant to call HR as we need to evaluate our screening for the folks we hire.... It's a toss up between letting her go and bailing on my subscription because you had the brass to actually run this as a good idea.. What were you thinking???? If I did this at one of my events the client would skin me alive and really..... Can you blame them?

Comment: It might look fun for a casual party if used at the bottom of a vase in the same way you'd use glass marbles/gems. But as pictured here, it does look tacky.
