The Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center completed a $1.2 million renovation last November. The exterior of the 317,000-square-foot facility received a fresh coat of paint, and new carpeting was installed inside. Fun fact: The aforementioned carpet is laced with hidden images of Mobile's historic buildings and attractions such as City Hall, the battleship Alabama, the cannons of Fort Condé and Mardi Gras beads. In addition, beginning in November, this historic Southern city will become the home port for the 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy, replacing the 1,452-passenger Carnival Holiday. The Fantasy, which will enter a dry dock for a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, will sail four- and five-night itineraries throughout the Western Caribbean. The AlleyThis summer, Montgomery will unveil a new entertainment district dubbed The Alley. The New Orleans-style main drag, just steps from the new convention center, will offer a variety of restaurants, bars and shopping, including a Hank Williams-themed saloon inspired by the nearby Hank Williams museum.
