Last month, the Savannah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau rolled out a new way for visitors to get in touch with what the city has to offer: Savannah Tourist Assistance Portals, or TAPs, which are touch-screen information kiosks deployed in high-traffic spots across the city. Initial sites for the machines include Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, City Market, City Hall and the CVB's Bay Street office. TAP kiosks provide a calendar of current events, lists of area attractions (including restaurants, hotels and shops), maps (of parking and of Savannah's free transportation system, among others) and more. Need directions to a venue of interest? TAP users can have text messages sent to their cell phones with instructions for getting there. savannahvisit.com
