Connecting with colleagues and networking with industry leaders and peers are well-established top reasons to meet. But instead of feeling energized, many conference or corporate retreat attendees can easily end up burned out and frazzled after hours of sitting inside and note taking.

That's why wellness is one of the hottest of the hot buttons for meeting planners. Infusing a meeting with wellness attributes can take many forms.  Instead of constant sessions on industry-focused topics, intersperse the schedule with a session on mindful relaxation.  If there is an on-site spa negotiate reduced fees for services.

Perhaps most importantly, choose a destination and a venue in a place of natural beauty where even short between-session breaks can reset a sense of well being.

"Having the beach just steps away from the conference center makes it easy to schedule fresh air-infused refreshment breaks with tropical fruit instead of candy," said Lisa Anselme, whose Healing Beyond Borders group recently held a wellness workshop at a beachfront resort in Naples, part of Florida's Paradise Coast.

Other ways to take advantage of beachfront resort meeting locations include active team building sessions with beach games at the end of the day as well as beach receptions featuring local seafood and healthy fresh vegetables.

Optional tours that attendees can schedule on their own time should take advantage of the location. For instance, in the Naples and Marco Island areas, local outfitters can be scheduled to provide kayak expeditions into the nearby Gulf Coast portion of Everglades National Park.

The Naples and Marco Islands Princess yachts whisk attendees out to the Gulf of Mexico for fresh air and spectacular sunsets.
Off-site activities such as a sunset cruise aboard a yacht offer not only fresh air and a spectacular view, but a sense of gratitude for attendees and an opportunity to share and bond with fellow meeting goers over a memorable experience.
