Loren G. Edelstein, editor in chief of Meetings & ConventionsEvery January, M&C celebrates cutting-edge developments that promise to transform the meeting experience for planners and attendees. The one I'm most excited about, personally, is how biometrics will improve security and efficiency in many facets of our daily lives.

Just two weeks ago, I enrolled in Global Entry, PreCheck and CLEAR. (Happy holidays to me!) I look forward to breezing past those winding TSA lines and taking the fast lane through Customs. But biometric technology has implications far beyond airport security.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Caryn Seidman Becker, chairman and CEO of CLEAR, who shared her vision for how the combination of biometrics and data analytics will give us the gift of additional time -- maybe an extra hour to make breakfast for our children before leaving on a trip, or the chance to visit a museum before heading for home.

Biometric readers already are capable of eliminating the need for boarding passes, stadium tickets and even credit cards. With a tap of the fingers or an iris scan, this technology -- once it is widespread -- could ultimately put the makers of crowd stanchions out of business. Yay to that!

Check out our top 10 picks here. What did we miss? Feel free to tell us what impresses you most in terms of recent innovations that are poised to rock our world.

I do believe that time is our most precious form of currency. I hope you had time to enjoy friends and loved ones over the holiday season, and have come back to work refreshed and excited about what 2017 has in store.

Happy New Year from all of us at M&C.
