Grand Openings April 2014

• The Hilton Eugene (Ore.) is fresh from a $5.5 million renovation that remodeled all 269 guest rooms, the lobby, the Share Lounge and more. The lounge now has a new private boardroom for eight, part of the property's new total of more than 30,000 square feet for meetings.

The George, a Kimpton Hotel, in Washington, D.C., has completed a $5 million renovation and redesign that  touched upon all guest rooms, hallways and more. The hotel has more than 2,000 square feet of meeting space.

• A  new 5,394-square-foot conference and special-event center has opened at the 315-room Westin Orlando Universal Boulevard, giving the resort a new total of 13,506 square feet for events of up to 300 people.

• The 501-room DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dublin has completed a US$21.6 million renovation of all its guest rooms and suites, conference facilities and more. Guest rooms now feature new furnishings, oversized work desks and complimentary Wi-Fi. For meetings and events, the property has a dedicated business floor with 18 meeting rooms, a 13,000-square-foot ballroom and numerous other facilities that can accommodate groups of up to 1,400 people. In the south end of the city, the hotel is just steps away from RDS and Aviva Stadium, home to international exhibitions and sporting events.

• Broughton Hotels unveiled three renovated boutique properties in Chicago last month: the 52-room Majestic, the 55-room Willows and the 45-room City Suites. All three were built in the 1920s; the Majestic has space for small meetings.

Bank on it.  The former Colorado National Bank is now the 221-room Renaissance Denver Downtown, which opens this month with many of its vintage 1925 details intact (rendering of main lobby, above). Eight meeting rooms include a grand ballroom for up to 256 people. The hotel is three blocks from the Colorado Convention Center.

More Debuts
• April will mark the debut of the 160-room Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix South, the result of a $5.5 million revamp of the former Grace Inn. The property offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout; Elliot's Grill; a spa with three treatment rooms; plus 9,000 square feet of indoor and 4,000 square feet of outdoor meeting space (with more to come).

• In Columbia, Mo., the 114-room Broadway Columbia - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel opens this month in the city's culture/retail hub. The LEED Green-certified property features free Wi-Fi and Hilton's Sweet Dreams bed in guest rooms, as well as a 24-hour pantry market and 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

• The long-awaited 134-room Aloft Oklahoma City Downtown - Bricktown is set to open on April 17 with the signature Aloft 24/7 pantry and re:mix lounge, plus free wireless Internet and seven meeting spaces, the largest spanning 4,100 square feet. Bricktown is the city's colorful arts and entertainment district.

• March 31 marked the opening of phase one of Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando. The hotel, the fourth and largest property within Universal Orlando Resort, evokes the classic, retro feel of iconic beach resorts from the 1950s and '60s. Now open are 600 suites, a pool, the Bayliner Diner and a fitness studio. Phase two, to debut this summer, will include 300 more suites, 900 standard rooms, plus another pool, a lazy river, and a bar and grill. The hotel offers a variety of outdoor spaces for group functions.

• In Connecticut, the 124-room Marriott Wilmington Downtown has opened with 1,879 square feet of meeting space, a corporate boardroom, a business library, two patios, a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout.

• The 235-room Novotel London Wembley will open this month with complimentary Internet and satellite TV in all guest rooms and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The property, not far from Wembley Stadium and steps from public transportation into the heart of town, features the Elements restaurant and bar (with an international menu) and two on-site meeting rooms that can accommodate a total of up to 140 people.

• The 209-room Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire has debuted in West Africa's chic Cocody district with two restaurants, four conference rooms and a 1,650-seat auditorium. An additional 217 guest rooms are slated to come online early in 2015, along with a casino, two more restaurants, a movie theater, nine more meeting rooms and a business center.

• In Paris, the 66-room Eugène en Ville has just opened with 66 guest rooms decked out in Victorian tin-plate ceilings, double damask curtains and trompe l'oeil Koziel wallpaper that gives an overall baroque feel to the place. The in-house bistro/bar, the Cantine d'Eugène, sports similar design touches plus 9 LCD screens assembled in a block for montages of vintage movies. The hotel has a meeting room that can accommodate up to 15 attendees.
