Local Update
• New York City has one of the most active hotel-development pipelines in the country, with 20,700 guest rooms planned or under construction as of May 2018, all contributing to an expected inventory total of 138,000 rooms by 2020.
• The 452-room Edition Times Square is set to debut by late summer 2018. The property will offer four levels of public space, including a 1,900-square-foot meeting studio, a fitness center, and a 5,800-square-foot beer garden and event deck.
• A 234-room Margaritaville hotel is slated to open in Manhattan in late 2020. The property, which will be built on the former site of a Parsons School of Design venue, will have a Margaritaville Restaurant, a 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar and a rooftop LandShark Bar & Grill.
• The 83-room Aman New York is under construction in the Crown Building on Fifth Avenue near Central Park. Plans call for a two-story lobby and the Garden Terrace restaurant on the 10th floor. A five-story penthouse will have its own indoor and outdoor pools, and a three-story spa will feature an indoor pool with daybeds and fire pits.
• The 612-room Moxy Times Square has opened with 22,000 square feet of meeting space, including three "studios" -- flexible multipurpose rooms with state-of-the-art A/V equipment -- for meetings and private parties. The hotel's offerings include the Bar Moxy; Legasea, a 185-seat seafood brasserie; Egghead, an all-day breakfast spot, and the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge.
• The London NYC has become part of Hilton's Conrad Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Accordingly, the 562-room property will be reflagged as the Conrad New York Midtown following a renovation to be completed by spring 2019.
• The 189-room Mondrian Park Avenue has opened in New York City's NoMad neighborhood. The hotel offers 7,000 square feet of meeting space.
• The 1,298-room Grand Hyatt New York in Midtown Manhattan recently debuted a multimillion-dollar renovation of its Conference Level, including 12,000 square feet of meeting space and 18 breakout rooms.
Meeting Hotels: Major meeting properties in the heart of Manhattan include the 1,981-room New York Hilton--Midtown, 1,946-room New York Marriott Marquis, 1,781-room Sheraton New York Hotel and 1,298-room Grand Hyatt New York.
