Twice as nice
A $1.4 billion expansion that would more than double the size of the Washington State Convention Center is being planned for downtown Seattle and awaits official approval. The project would add some 440,000 square feet of space to the 414,722-square-foot center. Completion is set for 2020.


Local Update
The Seattle Marriott Bellevue opened in July with 384 guest rooms, each equipped with 55-inch HD TVs, mini refrigerators and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. The property has 21,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 6,240-square-foot ballroom.

 The Meydenbauer Center currently is undergoing a $12.5 million renovation. Among highlights: The center hall lobby will be outfitted with new carpeting, wall treatments, lighting and colors; the 12,000 square feet of meeting space on the fourth floor will be completely remodeled, and the facility's audiovisual technology will be upgraded. The project is set to finish in September.

Taste of Tulalip
Just 36 miles north of Seattle, the 370-room Tulalip Resort Casino has 30,000 square feet of meeting space and eight F&B outlets to feed hungry attendees. Among options: Tulalip Bay, for fare such as Maine lobster tail ravioli; Blackfish, for regional seafood dishes such as Dungeness crab cakes with a miso-apple watercress salad; and the Draft Sports Bar and Grill, where bar fare and craft brews predominate.


Local Update
 The Boise Centre is undergoing a $38 million multiphase expansion that will double its available meeting space. Phase 1, to be completed in 2016, calls for a new 12,750-square-foot flexible meeting area and a 15,000-square-foot ballroom. Phase 2 will create a concourse to connect the new and old buildings. Phase 3 will include a renovation of the existing building. All work should be done by next summer.

 The 234-room Grove Hotel has finished a $4.5 million renovation. The hotel, which has 36,000 square feet for functions, will add a covered walkway connecting to the Boise Centre in 2016.

Group Venue: Jack's Urban Meeting Place is a 65,000-square-foot project in downtown Boise that will offer interactive learning studios and meeting spaces for groups. The venue is set to open   next spring and will include an outdoor amphitheater and a public park.
