In the charming (and delightfully walkable) Rittenhouse Square neighborhood in Center City, Butcher and Singer is a stellar example of an upscale steak house, courtesy of celebrity restaurateur Stephen Starr. The dimly lit décor features dark wood and comfortable leather booths, with an overall classic-era Hollywood gestalt described by the Starr Restaurants Group as a time "when women donned full red lips, men wore a suit and tie, and post-Prohibition liquor flowed freely." For starters, try the Shrimp & Crab Louie salad, then move on to a juicy New York strip or an 8-oz filet mignon. The venue can accommodate groups of up to 36 people in a semiprivate wing or, with an exclusive buyout, parties of up to 125 seated or 250 for a reception. (215) 732-4444
