The Culinary Center at the Ritz-Carlton hosts tequila tastings every Friday "to train the palate to recognize the subtle undertones and finishes of premium tequilas, created from the aromatic nectar of the agave plant."

Shell game. Lorenzillo's -- aka the Live Lobster House -- has been around since 1683. Its perch above the Nichupté Lagoon makes a beautiful setting for dinner. The house specialty comes in more than 20 varieties, including lobster with roasted ajillo chili pepper and garlic.






Pyramid of Chichen Itza

Built in 514 AD, the magnificent pyramids of Chichén Itzá are testament to the architectural and scientific prowess of the Mayan people. Highlights from the ruins include the Sacred Cenote, where human sacrifices once took place. Gray Line runs 12-hour tours (US$77) from most Cancún hotels to the site, with a 90-minute guided tour and lunch at the Mayaland Hotel.
