Old meets new: The
variegated face of Santiago
The engine of one of South
America’s healthiest economies, Santiago is a mixture of old and
new, a blossoming center for meetings and for the arts. The
200,000-square-foot Espacio Riesco, better known as the Santiago
Convention Center, opened a separate 250,000-square-foot exhibition
pavilion last month. Near the center is the 120-room Radisson,
which opened in 2004. An upscale hotel is currently in the planning
stages.
Elsewhere, the 310-room Hyatt Regency Santiago will complete a
renovation of its guest rooms and public spaces by September. In
addition to its wonderful lagoon-style swimming pool, the hotel has
seven meeting rooms and a ballroom for 800.
