This Rhode Island city
once again is abuzz with construction in and around the historic
buildings that were presciently preserved during Providence’s
renaissance over the past quarter century. Counting the 80 rooms at
The Hotel Providence, a boutique of understated elegance that
opened last year, the number of guest rooms within walking distance
of the Rhode Island Convention Center will increase more than 20
percent by the end of 2008.
The convention center itself is being reinvented. Construction
to connect it to the neighboring Dunkin’ Donuts Center will start
next month.
Also underway are at least five new condominium buildings
rising across the city.
