Serene scene: Waterside at the
Azulik resort
In the wake of last fall’s devastating
Hurricane Wilma, about 60 percent of Cancun’s hotel rooms were open
as of this past December; the percentage is better when heading
south along the Riviera Maya coast.
Wilma actually increased the beachfront area of some resorts in
Tulum, and nearly all the hotels here are up and running. The
rustic EcoTulum resorts including Copal, Zahra and the more
luxurious cabañas of Azulik have finished repairs and are set to
host retreats.
Copal’s luxurious Maya Spa Wellness Center is one popular
attraction, while just up the coast is the intimate and funky
four-suite Mezzanine hotel, known for its Asian fusion
restaurant.
