Porto, Portugal

The second largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, Porto came to fame as the place where port wine originated and in 1996 was named a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Meeting venues here include the Alfândega Congress Center, housed in a former customs house fronting on the Douro River and providing 388,000 square feet of meeting space.

The Palácio da Bolsa, a landmark building in the heart of town, has several spaces that accommodate private receptions.

On the hospitality front, the city offers the sleek 266-room Sheraton Porto Hotel and Spa, with 16 meeting rooms. The 82-room Yeatman, a Relais & Chateaux property with 11 meeting rooms, is in Vila Nova de Gaia, just south of Porto and home to ages-old port wine cellars.
