Weather
Denver's altitude of 5,280 ft/1,610 m above sea level and its proximity to the dry eastern slopes of the mountains mean its climate is generally sunny and dry. However, the weather can change suddenly. Dress in layers so you can add or remove clothing as the day requires. Although temperatures can be cold in the dead of winter, severe weather doesn't last long, and the sun appears most every day.
May can be wet and windy. Normally, summer highs are in the mid- to upper 80s F/29-31 C, with many days hitting low to mid-90s F/32-35 C. Relative humidity is low. Autumn is the best time to visit Denver—lots of sun, few clouds or storms, and warm (but not hot) temperatures. Annual rainfall runs about 16 in/40 cm. Winter snowfall runs 40-80 in/102-203 cm. Blizzards and high winds are not uncommon. Call ahead for weather reports.
