The 240-room Fairmont Corfu Resort & Spa, in Greece, will open in 2012 with 19,500 square feet of meeting and event space and a Willow Stream Spa. The complex also will include a beach club, a tennis academy and a marina.
Ritz-Carlton Hotels & Resorts took over management of the 431-room Nile Hilton in Cairo, Egypt, on Jan. 1 and renamed it the Nile Hotel, Cairo. After an 18- to 24-month restoration, it will be renamed The Ritz-Carlton, Cairo. The hotel has 10 meeting rooms.
The Incentive Research Foundation has named former Maritz executive Rodger Stotz chief research officer. He will oversee surveys and polls for the New York City-based organization.
An association of Destination Management Executives survey shows that more than half the respondents (49 in total) expect their volume of business to decrease in 2009. The poll, conducted via e-mail, also revealed DMC members' concerns over the recent increase in third-party firms that now offer destination management services.
