Financing for New Nashville Convention Center in Place

According to The Tennessean, Nashville's Mayor Karl Dean told the city council last Thursday that the city should go ahead with plans to build the new $585 million convention facility, Music City Center, but should wait on construction of the attached headquarters hotel, a $200 million, 1,000-room Marriott Marquis. The mayor told the council the hotel should be delayed until private financing is more readily available. Meanwhile, the new convention center will -- if approved -- be publicly funded by bonds.
