The Democratic and Republican National
Conventions are nearing, and attendees likely will want
hotel rooms close to the action. But with thousands of delegates
each, who goes where?
In August, the GOP will match New York City hotel rooms to
2,509 delegates based on state size and amount of sway in the
election. For instance, the Washington, D.C., delegation will stay
in the storied Algonquin, pictured at right, near Madison Square
Garden.
In Boston come July, Democrats will dole out 17,000 rooms
according to similar criteria. But organizers say all rooms are
within three and a half miles of the FleetCenter, a big improvement
from the Democrats’ 2000 convention in Los Angeles, where some
unlucky delegates found themselves stranded in rooms more than 17
miles from the Staples Center.
