Alabama Passes Tough Immigration Law

Last week, Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed into law what some are calling the most restrictive immigration act in the nation. Effective Sept. 1, schools will be required to report how many students in their classrooms are illegal residents, and the transportation of an undocumented person will become a crime. Similar to Arizona's law, police will be allowed to verify the citizen status of anyone they suspect might be an illegal immigrant if that person is stopped for another reason and, by April next year, all businesses must check the status of workers using a federal system called E-Verify.
