Transporting freight can weigh heavily on the bottom line. The
Reston, Va.-based Society of Toxicology (www.toxexpo.com) has
posted the following money-saving tips for exhibitors.
THINK AHEAD. To avoid costly last-minute
errors, such as overnight reshipping of lost boxes, get freight out
as early as possible.
TIME IS MONEY. Make sure carpets and pads are
the last to go in the truck, so they can be the first items
removed. This will save on the time required for setup.
LEAVE IT BEHIND. If you know that you will be
returning to the same city within the next few weeks, ask your
transportation carrier to hold your freight. Good carriers have
been known to hold customers’ cargo for up to three weeks without
charge.
LESS IS MORE. The volume of items such as
literature or giveaways will decrease dramatically, if not
entirely, before being shipped home. Save money by asking your
general contractor to adjust your outbound drayage invoice.
