Managers often bungle the most basic rules for
keeping employees happy and productive, say experts. Here are
simple tips. (For more advice, go to www.management.about.com.)
Slow down. Too many workers plow through
their routines at top speed, which turns duties into busy work and
sacrifices quality. Allow yourself and your employees time to think
about the tasks at hand.
Stand back. A sure-fire way to stifle
creativity and alienate top talent is to micromanage employees. Let
others sweat the small stuff while you tackle larger issues.
Promote office culture. It takes serious effort
to create a comfortable, fun workplace. Find out what would make
your staff love to come to work, and then take pains to provide
that kind of stimulating environment.
