Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts June 1998

June 1998
Short Cuts:ETC.
Exhibitor tip: Send presents. A study by the
Langhorne, Pa.-based Center for Exhibition Industry Research found
that pre-show gifts significantly boost booth traffic. A
triple-gift approach, consisting of pre-show promotion, at-show
giveaway and post-show follow-up, resulted in a 70 percent increase
in preference for the exhibiting organization over exhibitors who
gave nothing away.
Dining bites: Data compiled by New York
City-based Zagat Survey reveals some market-by-market quirks:
Houstonians eat out the most; Kansas City has the nation's cheapest
eats; Philadelphians are the best tippers, and New Mexicans give
their local restaurants higher average ratings than reviewers
anywhere else in the country.
