Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts October 1998

October 1998
Short Cuts:FAST FORWARD
One problem many associations have is verifying that attendees
actually sit in on the sessions they want credit for. The new
Trac-Ed service from Walpole, Mass.-based Leads, Etc., is a
two-pronged solution. The system puts a bar code and an
alphanumeric PIN number on each badge (Trac-Ed can print badges,
too). Room monitors can scan badges with a bar code reader - a
small hand-held computer - or enter the PIN. The Trac-Ed system can
generate certificates combining all credits earned before attendees
leave the conference.
If Leads, Etc., produces the certificates, the service costs
$10,000 for the first 1,000 attendees, including all set-up,
printing and shipping charges. If the association generates the
certificates, the cost is $250 per session, with a minimum setup
charge of $5,000. For more information, contact Leads, Etc., at
(508) 660-6785 or visit the company's Web site (www.leadsetc.com).
