Apple Computer has introduced a laptop version
of its iMac machine, called the iBook. Weighing
6.6 pounds, the candy-colored notebook features Mac OS 8.6, a
300-MHz PowerPC G3 processor, a 3.2-GB hard drive, 32 MB of SDRAM
that can be expanded to 160 MB, a built-in 56K modem and a
24x-speed CD-ROM drive. The lithium-ion battery runs for six hours
between charges.
Another iBook option is the new AirPort, which enables users to
set up a local area network anywhere and work wirelessly up to 150
feet from the access point. Set up the AirPort on the hotel room
desk, and you can work from the bed.
The basic iBook costs $1,599. Visit the Apple Web site, www.apple.com.
