Short Cuts:FAST FORWARD
Two-way pagers finally have shrunk to the size of tiny one-way
pagers. Glenayre Technologies' Santa Clara, Calif., division
introduced AccessLink II, an alphanumeric pager that can be
operated with one hand. It receives and replies to e-mail messages,
holds an address book, communicates wirelessly with other portable
devices and runs for 30 days on one AA battery. The device is
available from Glenayre or these service providers: SkyTel, PageNet
and MCI, which offers the pager only to its business customers.
At press time, prices were as follows: SkyTel, $195 for the
pager and $24.95 per month for service; PageNet, $240 plus $24.95
for monthly service; and MCI, $225 plus $35 monthly. For details,
