Short Cuts:
HEALTH BEAT
UNWRAP BEFORE EATING. Those who have been
reaching for the latest fad food -- wrap sandwiches -- might be
surprised to learn how much fat might be rolled up in that fancy
flat bread.
Nutrition Action Healthletter recently analyzed wrap
sandwiches at popular fast food chains -- and the results may have
health-conscious eaters opting for a burger. Among the worst
offenders, Au Bon Pain's Southwestern Tuna Wrap has more fat (64
grams) than two McDonald's Quarter Pounders with Cheese, and it
packs a hefty 950 calories.
Au Bon Pain also had one of the least fattening sandwiches, its
Summer Turkey Wrap (340 calories, 9 grams of fat). Other light
choices included Taco Bell's Bean Burrito (380 calories, 12 grams
fat) and Wendy's Garden Veggie Pita (400 calories, 17 grams fat).
Ironically, dieters would be better off grabbing a Subway Roast
Beef Sub, which has 300 calories and 5 grams of fat.
