Industry Analyst Bjorn Hanson reports that even though the U.S. lodging industry is entering the strongest buyer's market in 33 years, hotels are fiscally fit and can break even with occupancies as low as 54 percent.

Hertz has launched Connect by Hertz,
a car-sharing club similar to Zipcar that allows members to rent by the hour, in New York City, London and Paris. Hertz plans to roll out the program to other cities this year.

The city council of Peoria, Ill.,
has approved $40 million in funding for the construction of a new 200-room downtown Marriott hotel, to be connected to the Hotel Père Marquette, next to the Peoria Civic Center. The project would give the city a 489-room headquarters hotel.

JetBlue and American Airlines announced plans to increase flights from Boston's Logan International Airport. In April, AA will begin service to San Diego and add more flights to several cities, including London. JetBlue will add flights to 12 U.S. and Caribbean destinations, including the launch of weekly nonstops to St. Martin.
