Hotels has expanded its international membership with the
addition of two new members in early 2007: the Old Course Hotel,
Golf Resort & Spa in St. Andrews, Scotland, and the
InterContinental Paris Le Grand Hotel.
The orlando/Orange
County Convention & Visitors Bureau named Gary C. Sain
its new president, effective as of Feb. 12. He replaces Bill
Peeper, who retired at the end of 2006.
United Airlines was
granted official approval on Feb. 8 to operate the first nonstop
daily flight between Washington Dulles International Airport and
Beijing, a 14-hour trip linking the two capitals. The carrier beat
out American Airlines, Continental and Northwest, which had filed
for permission to fly to China from their respective hubs. The new
service will begin on March 28.
The State Department
said it issued 12.1 million passports during fiscal year 2006 and
expects to issue at least 16 million in 2007, due to tighter
passport rules for travelers entering the United States.
